Top Twenty, Dimensions Audition Information

We are SO excited that you are interested in joining us for the 2020-2021 school year!

The Kenton Show Choir Program is one of the premiere organizations to be a part of in Kenton City Schools. We are an elite organization that prides ourselves on high standards of respect, responsibility, and excellent music performance. We believe that achieving excellence in the art form of show choir will cause students to strive for excellence in all areas. We are committed to delivering an experience to students, parents, and community and audience members that is professional, exciting, and entertaining.

Due to COVID-19, we will be holding auditions online this year using a platform called Flipgrid. We will explain everything thoroughly so that you will be all set for your audition. If you have any questions or problems with submitting an audition online, please e-mail Mr. Daquino. Audition submission deadline is by Wednesday, May 20, at 11:59 pm! We don’t want you to not try out because you don’t have access to the internet or are having trouble submitting. We will be more than happy to help out! Please pay careful attention to all of the information presented as it will help you have a successful experience and audition.

Please Note: You only need to submit ONE vocal audition and ONE dance audition.

Below are the instructions on how to audition for Top Twenty and Dimensions. If you have any questions, read the FAQs at the bottom of the page and/or e-mail Mr. Daquino.

FAQs

How are students selected?

Students are selected on many factors. The typical factors like skill set and ability to perform are used, but things like behavior, work ethic, and commitment also play roles. Another two equally important elements for our team are curiosity and flexibility. Our directors try to figure out if each performer has a learning curve, and if they’re able to confidently tackle new challenges on the spot. There’s something magical about a group in which every single member is striving to better themselves, to imagine an even higher plane of performance. With a group like that, every rehearsal and every performance feels fresh.

Should I dress up for my audition?

That is completely up to you. Some people like to put their best foot forward. However, if you are doing a dance audition, you should be in clothes that you can comfortably move in.

What if I am having trouble submitting a video?

Contact Mr. Daquino.

Who watches the audition videos?

The videos are only watched by the team of directors/staff.

Can we get feedback on the audition? Yes, but not until two weeks after results are posted.

You can e-mail or schedule a time to video chat about your audition. We are happy to give feedback on the actual audition, but will not speak about the audition in comparison to another student’s audition.

Is financial aid available?

A limited amount of financial aid to the program is available. This will be covered in our student/parent meeting (date TBA).

When will audition results be posted?

Audition results will be posted on the Kenton City Schools Music Department page by Thursday, May 21.

Is there an informational meeting or gathering that we will need to be at if we are in the program?

All students who are accepted into the program are expected to attend the Sponsorship Drive/informational meeting (date TBA due to COVID-19).
