Class of 2020 graduation details

We are happy to announce this week’s upcoming activities for Seniors and their parents:

  • 2020 Seniors have chosen times on Tuesday and Thursday to receive their diplomas in our brand new full turf field house. While receiving their diploma, thanks to private donors, our seniors will receive a check for $50, a congratulatory yard sign, academic and/or athletic awards earned this Spring, and they are being given their chromebook and case to keep. The individual ceremony will also provide parents with the opportunity to take close up pictures, video, and even FaceTime/Zoom more family members to capture the moment as their son or daughter changes from a candidate to a graduate signified by the changing of their tassel.
  • Tuesday May 19th at 9 a.m., this year’s Senior Awards will be broadcast on the district’s Facebook Page, YouTube Channel, as well as on local cable access Spectrum channel 1025. This year’s Seniors will receive over $16,000 in additional scholarships from last year, bringing in a total of over $170,000! Tune in to watch this video highlighting our students and what they plan to do after high school.
  • Thanks to the City of Kenton, graduates will have the opportunity to participate in a “Senior Cruise” on Saturday night departing the Kmart parking lot at 7 p.m. Details regarding the cruise route will be available in the Kenton Times as well as the City’s website. WKTN will be playing the Senior Cruise Soundtrack on 95.3 FM. Students can request their favorite songs to play through a link provided to our Seniors via email this week. Be on the lookout for a few banners downtown along this cruise route.
  • For Tuesday, May 26th, Kenton City Schools has rented one of the few remaining Drive-In Theaters in the nation for a celebration of our 2020 Senior’s graduation. Every Senior was provided 3 tickets (one ticket admits one vehicle) providing free entry into the theater for the debut of the 2020 Graduation Video beginning at 9 p.m. We will be reserving parking spaces in the front of the theater for our Seniors. This video will be simultaneously broadcast on the district Facebook Page, YouTube Channel, and Spectrum local cable access channel 1025. Teachers will be welcoming the Seniors as they drive-in to receive a program, donated cupcake, and lots of smiles. Spoiler alert…there will be an outtakes section at the end. Digital access to the video will be emailed to each parent and student. DVD copies will also be provided to any family who makes the request.
  • Senior Shout-Outs will continue on district social media highlighting each individual Senior, their plans after high school, and special memories shared with classmates.
  • Finally, once KCS is permitted to do so, we will be excited to host a 2020 Senior Night at Robinson Field. Graduates will be able to take group cap and gown pictures, group mortar board toss video and pictures, class composite pictures, and potential individual and group yearbook pictures. Food, drinks, music, and games will be provided to allow our Seniors to enjoy being together.
