KENTON CITY SCHOOLS
PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN
REGISTRATION/SCREENING PROCESS

When is the Registration/Screening Process?
Monday, April 11th through Thursday, April 14th

In order to more efficiently operate the Preschool and Kindergarten Registration/Screening process, the Kenton City Schools has decided to cancel ALL Preschool and Kindergarten classes the week of April 11th through April 14th. This will allow us to utilize the entire staff to conduct the preschool and kindergarten registration/screening process to give the maximum amount of focus to the children that will be attending for the 2022-2023 school year.

Age Requirement for Preschool: Parents of children who will be three years old on or before August 1, 2022,

Age Requirement for Kindergarten:  Parents of children who will be five years old on or before August 1, 2022,

Scheduling: Parents of  Preschool and Kindergarten children need to schedule a Registration/Screening Appointment with Carol Scott, Administrative Assistant, at the Kenton Elementary School. Please call (419) 673-7248 ext 1001, email [email protected], or register online at https://go.kcs.me/kreg to schedule a date and time between April 11th through April 14th that will be most convenient for your family’s schedule.

Where is the Registration/Screening?
Kenton Elementary School

Kenton, Ohio 43326
Phone (419)673-7248 ext 1001

On the day of your appointment, please bring your child to Kenton Elementary School to participate in the Screening Process. At the same time, please bring your child’s birth certificate (NOT birth record), social security card, immunization record and custody papers, if applicable, proof of residency, photo id in order to participate in the Registration Process.

What will your child do during the Screening Process?

During the Screening Process, your child will participate in the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment for Learning – Fourth Edition (DIAL-4) Screening. The DIAL-4 Screening gives us information about your child’s motor skills (fine and gross motor), knowledge of basic concepts and your child’s use of language. Your child will also have a vision and hearing screening conducted. The Screening results will be used to shape instructional decisions, determine appropriate interventions and identify needed community-based services. Information from screenings will not be used as the basis for keeping children out of school. Children who meet state age requirements for kindergarten entrance will be admitted to kindergarten. Due to limited space, we will enroll preschool children through a lottery system. After your child has completed the Screening Process, you will have the opportunity to meet with a staff member to go over your child’s evaluation. Staff will provide families with transition activities to ensure that your child is healthy and ready to fully participate in the academic process.

What will you do during the Registration Process?

During the Registration Process, you will complete the required enrollment paperwork. You will turn in the required documents: Child’s Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Immunization Record, Custody Paper (if applicable), proof of residency and photo id to Carol Scott, Administrative Assistant, to copy and return. The Kenton City School’s Nurse, Mindy Hensel, will be reviewing your child’s immunization records to ensure that your child has the required immunizations. The State of Ohio requires that all students entering kindergarten have 5 DTaP, 4 Polio, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 MMR and 2 Varicella.  Preschool students need 4 DTaP, 3 polio, 3 Hepatitis B, 1 MMR and 1 Varicella. If your child has had natural chickenpox, and presents a signed statement from the parent, guardian, or physician to that effect, they are not required to be immunized against chickenpox.  Any student without these immunizations will be directed to the Wildcat Health Clinic Opt 3.

How long will the Registration/Screening Process last?

The Registration/Screening Process will last approximately 1½ hours.

We are looking forward to working with you and your child!
