Kenton Varsity Wildcats Stymied By Liberty-Benton Varsity Eagles

Kenton Varsity Wildcats had trouble keeping up with Liberty-Benton Varsity Eagles in an 11-5 loss on Wednesday.

Liberty-Benton Varsity Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Payton Spence doubled to left field, Taylor Shaw grounded out, and Sophie McDaniel doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Kenton Varsity Wildcats tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Lyla Gammon, and a double by Kaylee Barlow.

In the top of the fourth, Kenton Varsity Wildcats broke up the tie when Kylee Kavanagh doubled, scoring one run. Then a sacrifice bunt by Raeleigh Whitaker followed to extend the lead to 5-3.

A home run to center field by Elise Brzezinski gave Liberty-Benton Varsity Eagles the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fourth.

Megan Gerken earned the win for Liberty-Benton Varsity Eagles. The starter allowed two hits and four runs over six and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking five. Kavanagh took the loss for Kenton Varsity Wildcats. The righty went four and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs (four earned) on nine hits, striking out one and walking two.

Barlow provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Kenton Varsity Wildcats with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-4 on the day. Barlow, Kavanagh, and Gammon each collected one hit for Kenton Varsity Wildcats. Emori Criner paced Kenton Varsity Wildcats with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up five walks for the game. CJ Newberry stole two bases.
